Exceptional Wines Of Argentina and an article by guest blogger Tim Long

Two great wines to sip at Zuppas this holiday season!

It is common, especially during the holiday season to find celebrations taking place in our dining room for both lunch and dinner.  A nice glass of wine not only enhances the taste of our delicious menu items, it also serves to take a special meal to another level and really makes the occasion a memorable one. Whether you are visiting Zuppas for a specific celebration, or just enjoying an everyday meal, we have recently received two delicious  wines we encourage you to try. As always, our wines are personally tasted and approved by Peter and are available by the glass or bottle at a very affordable price.

We would like to thank Tim Long, CWE, wine educator with AVA wines, for not only bringing these wines to Zuppas but for also sharing his expertise and knowledge regarding the area from which they originate, as well as their individual characteristics. Zuppas is fortunate to have a partner such as Tim to help us bring our customers high value wines that really stand out.

Exceptional New Wines Of Argentina

Wine lovers around the country have fallen in love with Argentina and its favorite red wine, Malbec. A relatively obscure grape in its original homeland of southwest France, it is in the high- desert vineyards of Argentina where this grape shines.

Most Argentinean Malbec is made in the Northwest’s Mendoza province, providing deeply colored reds with a savory fruit profile of juicy plum and red and black berries. But one of the most fascinating new releases of Argentinian Malbec comes from vineyards far from Mendoza, from a winegrowing region more than 500 miles to the south in the fabled Patagonia of Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. On the way to Antarctica, the last stop for winegrowing is Patagonia.

This remote, windswept region’s cool nights and hot days result in distinctive wines, and the wine called VERUM MALBEC is a special red. It has been described as “wonderfully complete,” and received 90 points from renowned critic Robert Parker, who declared it “…an outstanding value… well balanced, smooth-textured….with inviting notions of cigar box, violets and black fruits.”

Another recent release, and a fine Argentinian white to pair with the Malbec, is a tasty and unique blend from the Roca family which has been growing wine in Mendoza for four generations. The ALFREDO ROCA CHENIN BLANC-CHARDONNAY is a delicious white, like a South American rendition of Vouvray but with the ripe peach of Chenin married to Mendoza Chardonnay’s fleshy apple, pear and tropical citrus.

This wine also received 90 points from Robert Parker, who describes ROCA as “…one of the best white wine values available in the market… stunning aromas of white peaches, honey- suckle and citrus, it comes across as an elegant, Loire Valley- styled, dry, richly fruity, pure white that is filled with character.”

Welcome to Zuppas, and some of the most unusually delicious new wines of Argentina.
